Prior to moving here from Bend, Oregon, we explored living on the Yucatan coast of Mexico. Prices were over the top and we didn’t see a social structure we might fit into quickly. And, what would we do sitting on the beach all day as that was where you found the cooling breeze. By happenstance, a friend of a friend suggested Panama. So off we headed with the vision of a hot, muggy, buggy wild frontier. We’ve since found all those things but not here where we’ve also found a kind and welcoming culture in the little paradise valley called Boquete.
Boquete is a wonderful community of about 17,000 people from all walks of life. There are about 1,000 expats here in the area. The town offers everything from immediate health care to choice of many excellent restaurants, spas and lots of outdoor activities. Boquete also features the only theater in our area. The larger city of over 80,000 people is David, just 30 minutes away. A new 4 lane highway is being built between Boquete and David where there will be international flights available. David will have most of whatever may not be available here in Boquete.
The Hillside Haven Guest Home is located just a 12 minute drive from downtown Boquete. The guest home is situated on a 1 + hectare property at 4200 ft. elevation, where our home is also located. This is one of the sweet spots in Panama where the weather is spring like most of the time. Sure, we have the rainy season and the dry season but the average temperature is about 72 degrees with variations not much more than 10 degrees either way. The property boasts fantastic views from the Pacific Ocean to the south around past volcano Baru and beyond to the west and north west where you can see extinct volcanos in Costa Rica. The area we are located in is called Ceilo Grande or Big Sky and it rightly deserves it’s name.
You will watch weather systems move across the sky right before your eyes while the green parrots fly overhead.
This is truly a dream come true. Come enjoy it with us.
